Miss You ~ Tribute to Nicki

Hey there...I want to start today's post off by saying that...
I did not create this card
I found it by accident; cruising through the creations over at Splitcoaststampers.com one day back in June.

This card says it all to me and it spoke to my heart.
[thank you ashjoy for allowing me to share it!]

See, last year on this day...very early in the morning, we received the terrible news that my son's best-friend/neighbor (like a brother, and son to me) was killed in a car crash.

Nicki was a Midshipman, home on leave for a few weeks, getting ready to start his Junior Year at the U.S. Naval Academy.

My kids have been his BF for 15 years since they were 8 and 11.  We all have so many precious memories, and still...even a year later, cannot comprehend that he's gone.

He was a wonderful student, friend, brother, son, and young man that was one of the most genuine, loving people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

My kids have never been the same since losing him.

None of us have.

Poem below from his remembrance card...

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work, or play,
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
For God wanted me now - He set me free.

R.I.P. Nicki...
we know you're in a better place,
yet we still miss you so much!

Love~ your "other Momma", Cheryl
